When it comes down to iconic movie cars of the 80s, Ferris Bueller’s red Ferrari 250 GT California sits somewhere near the top of that list. The car is indeed “so choice.”
Former California-based company Modena Design partnered with the production team at Paramount to build three of these very special replicas; a hero car, a stunt car and a rolling shell. With the first two ending up with wrecked suspensions courtesy of two trigger-happy parking attendants, the third was bought back by Neil Glassmoyer- one of the men in charge of the build at Modena Design.
In ten years time, Glassmoyer restored the fiberglass replica to running condition. He ditched the original Ford V8 slated for the car, in favor of a 5.7-liter V8 bored out to 7.0-liters and capable of 500-hp. Other features include chrome wheels, a handsome new leather interior and the very fact that it shared screen time with a certain Matthew Broderick in 1986.
This go-fast movie prop will be headed to the Mecum Auctions block in Monterey, California on August 17th. But twenty bucks says Cameron is in this car right now…
