Many have been waiting eagerly for the arrival of BMW’s new hybrid-electric sportscar, the i8. Ahead of an official public unveiling on September 10th at the Frankfurt Motor Show, leaked images give us a first glimpse at the i8 in all its production-spec glory.
Giving us just a sample of what to expect, we get to see a side profile of the car with the McLaren F1-like butterfly door ajar. And we also get a first look at an extremely clean, extremely white interior. Much of it differing from the concept study we saw back in 2011.
These new images paint a bit of a broader picture of what we can expect when it takes to the stage later next week. We already know that under the hood sits a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine good for 231-horsepower and a 131-hp electric motor (total output sits at 362 hp).
0-60 mph arrives in only 4.5 seconds, and average fuel consumption sits at 113 mpg (2.5l/100km). It can also ride on pure electric power for 22 miles alone.
