Remember when we told you about the man who bought a storage container in NY for $100, only to find it housed the custom Lotus from James Bond? Well that “submersible” Lotus sold for $866,000, and the mystery man who bought it was none other than Tesla CEO and potential-modern-day-Bond-villain Elon Musk.
To refresh your memory, a Long Island man bought the storage unit in question back in 1989. In it, he found a Lotus that he assumed was damaged, because it had no wheels. Through CB radio chatter it was clarified that he was in possession of one of the famous underwater cars from the ‘Spy Who Loved Me.’
In September, the Daily Mail reported that the car sold for $866,000 to a “Mystery Buyer,” and yesterday morning, Jalopnik confirmed that the mystery man was none other than billionaire investor Elon Musk.
In addition to being CEO of both Tesla and SpaceX, Musk is also a car enthusiast and discerning collectors. His most recent acquisition clearly backs that up.
According to a Tesla PR release, Musk plans on making the Lotus a functioning underwater car. Wow, it really is only a matter of time before Elon Musk starts fitting sharks with lasers and comes out as the evil genius that we all suspect!
